On July 8, 2019, Chama Cha Mawakili (CCM) filed a case in the High Court challenging the appointment of former Chief Justice Bernard Chunga by DPP Noordin Haji.

The lobby group, comprising lawyers, argues that Chunga's selection as chairman of the taskforce was not based on merit or fair competition.

According to CCM, the appointment is unconstitutional as it lacks principles of accountability, merit, and competition.

The group claims that there was no advertisement or communication made to the public about the position, and no interviews were conducted.

CCM is seeking to have the appointment suspended pending the determination of the dispute.

The lawyers also claim that Chunga's choice has rekindled memories of his past actions as Deputy Public Prosecutor and Chief Justice, which were detrimental to many.
