On December 28, 2021, a sting operation in Naivasha, Nakuru County, led to the arrest of a police constable suspected of attempting to sell a loaded firearm.
The officer, attached to Police Headquarters in Nairobi, had allegedly planned to meet a proxy at the Craft Yard Club in Naivasha to sell a CZ pistol loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
However, the would-be proxy had already alerted the police, and an ambush was laid. The police constable arrived at the Craft Yard Club in a grey Nissan Note taxi, accompanied by a 38-year-old man from Ruiru, Kiambu County, and a 30-year-old woman from Ruaka, Kiambu County.
Police recovered the CZ pistol with serial number KE-KP F1948, 25 rounds of ammunition, a National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) card, two Samsung phones, and a Redmi smartphone. The three suspects were taken to Naivasha Police Station for further investigation.
