On July 8, 2019, Shanghai SIPG, the reigning Chinese Super League champions, announced the signing of Austria international forward Marko Arnautovic from English Premier League club West Ham United.
Arnautovic, 30, joins SIPG's attacking lineup, which already includes former Chelsea midfielder Oscar and Brazilian Hulk, with the expectation that he will be followed by the departure of striker Elkeson, who has been linked with a return to Guangzhou Evergrande.
With 14 games remaining in the Chinese league season, SIPG is two points behind league leaders Beijing Guoan and will also face Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds in the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League next month.
