Published on July 8, 2019, Gor Mahia FC's Team Manager Jolawi Obondo has announced that the Kenyan Premier League club will use the CECAFA Kagame Cup as a run-out test for their new signings.
At least four players who were crucial to Gor's historic campaign will miss the annual interclub competition, giving new faces a chance to make their mark on the team.
Philemon Otieno and Joash Onyango have been given a break after representing the country at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, while Francis Kahata and Jacques Tuyisenge have left the club.
Additionally, Burundian international Francis Mustapha is unavailable due to an injury he sustained during Burundi's final AFCON group match against Guinea.
However, goalkeeper David Mapigano, who joined the club from Singida SC, is expected to feature prominently in the tournament.
According to Jolawi, the team is in the process of giving their new signings an opportunity to prove their worth, with the final list to be forwarded to CAF for upcoming continental assignments after the tournament.
Meanwhile, captain Harun Shakava, who has been linked to Wazito FC and a move to Zambia, has traveled with the team, leaving his exit from Gor uncertain.
Gor Mahia FC will open their campaign against newcomers Maniema Union of DR Congo this evening.
