Nairobi, Kenya - December 23, 2021 - Mumias Sugar Company, a once-respected sugar company in Kenya and the region, is set to be revived after Sarrai Group secured a 20-year lease for its assets.
The lease, which was secured after a four-month bidding process, was confirmed by P V R Rao, the current receiver and court-appointed administrator of Mumias Sugar Company.
Rao noted that the lease is in the interest of all stakeholders and in conformity with the recent Court ruling dated November 19, 2021.
However, the lease did not include the Ethanol and Cogen plants.
Sarrai Group Chairman, Sarbi Singh Rai, outlined the firm's immediate focus as investing in the rehabilitation of the machinery back to effective operational status and engaging outgrowers and an experienced workforce to ensure collaboration to revive the factory.
