Published on July 8, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Nairobi when a tout on a Kileton Sacco matatu killed a 28-year-old woman, Florence Muthoni Wanjiru.
According to reports, Florence boarded the matatu registration KCC 086U at Chaka Place in Hurlingham headed to the CBD. However, the matatu changed course towards Upper Hill and the tout hit her with an iron bar on the back of the head and threw her out of the bus.
She succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at a city hospital. The driver of the matatu has been arrested, but the tout is still on the run.
Friends and family of Florence have taken to social media to demand justice and express their condolences. Messages of support include those from Emmanuel Saningo, Mwangi Chege, James Lawrence Mwangi, Waithiegeni Gabriels, Grace Mumbi, Muthoni Ndwiga, Cindy Sweet, and Lucy Mukiri.
