December 20, 2021, marked a significant development in the long-standing tussle for control of the Nairobi County Assembly's finance office. The Employment and Labour Relations Court issued a ruling temporarily removing Acting Clerk Adah Onyango from her position.
The court's directive was issued in response to a case filed by Okiya Omtata against the Nairobi County Assembly Service Board (CASB). According to the court order, Adah Onyango was barred from acting as the Nairobi City County Assembly Clerk and Secretary to the county assembly Service Board pending an inter-parties hearing and determination of the application.
Adah Onyango's term as Acting Clerk had expired on December 10, 2021, making the latest directive long overdue, according to Okiya Omtata. Speaking exclusively to TaarifaNews, Omtata emphasized that the court's decision was a necessary step towards resolving the protracted tussle that has plagued the office since 2018.
Following the court's directive, Pauline Akuku, the Deputy Clerk Administration, has taken over the position in an interim capacity. This development marks the latest chapter in a series of changes to the office, which has seen several holders, including Edward Gichana and Jacob Ngwele, engage in a tussle for control.
