On December 17, 2021, a devastating incident occurred in Gatanga, Muranga County, when a four-storey building under construction collapsed, trapping 10 construction workers.

The building, which was being constructed at the Sunstar Resort, was in the Makeji area of Gatanga.

Rescue efforts are currently underway, with the police and fire brigade on the scene to assess the situation and help with the rescue services.

According to reports, six victims had been retrieved from the rubble by the time of going to press and were rushed to the Thika Level IV Hospital.

This incident comes months after a similar incident in Gachie, Kiambu County, where three people lost their lives and over a dozen others sustained injuries when a five-storey building under construction collapsed.

Investigations are underway to establish the cause of the collapse, and the National Construction Authority (NCA) has stated that they had not given approval for the building.
