On Friday night, prominent city lawyer and businessman Karanja Kabage met a tragic end in a car accident at Karen, Nairobi. The incident has left detectives scrambling to uncover the cause of the accident.
According to initial police reports, Kabage might have suffered a heart attack while driving on the Southern Bypass in Nairobi. However, the police are yet to confirm the cause of death, and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
On Saturday, National Police Service Spokesperson Charles Owino revealed that Kabage was driving a black Land Cruiser VX on the Southern Bypass when the vehicle veered off the road and hit a pavement. Eyewitnesses claim that Kabage was assisted by a taxi driver and a Good Samaritan, who helped him to Nairobi Hospital.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Kabage was found to be unconscious, and despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead. Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has instructed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the cause of death, and the police are also looking into Kabage's personal driver, who parted ways with him on Friday evening.
The police are also examining the places Kabage visited before the accident, including the first annual Mount Kenya High Level Uongozi Forum at Safari Park, where he was a panelist on Friday.
“Let us wait for the postmortem examination to tell us more on the possible cause of the incident,” said an official who visited the scene and sought anonymity.
