Published on July 8, 2019, Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has maintained his innocence in the alleged plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
Munya spoke at his rural home in Muthara, Meru County over the weekend, where he said he is not a murderer and that the allegations levelled against him are false.
'I came home to defend myself because you might think I have become a murderer,' he said at a funeral, as quoted by Nation.
He added that the allegations are a plot against him and his team, and that they will not record statements until a formal complaint is filed.
According to Munya, President Uhuru Kenyatta tasked him with coordinating Mt Kenya development talks after legislators decried slow delivery of projects.
He explained that meetings had been taking place at various venues, including Weston Hotel, and that he had met with 45 government officials, including ministers and parastatal heads, before the alleged assassination plot emerged.
'We will not be deterred by these baseless allegations,' Munya said. 'We will continue to meet and discuss the development of Mt Kenya, as we have a right as Kenyans.'
