On July 8, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Nairobi, leaving a family in mourning. Florence Wanjiru, a 28-year-old Kenyan woman, lost her life after being pushed out of a moving matatu by a rogue tout.
According to eyewitnesses, Wanjiru was a passenger on a Kileleton Sacco matatu, which was plying the Kileleshwa-Lavington route. The conductor of the matatu allegedly threw her out of the vehicle, leaving her with serious injuries.
Wanjiru was taken to the hospital, where she was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) due to the severity of her condition. Unfortunately, she remained unattended for several hours before succumbing to her injuries.
Wanjiru's family has since spoken out about the incident, with her mother, Beatrice, revealing that her daughter had narrated the events leading up to her death. According to Beatrice, the conductor had hit Wanjiru with a metal rod before pushing her out of the moving bus.
Police are currently investigating the incident, using CCTV footage to unravel the mystery surrounding the tragic event. The driver of the bus has been arrested, but the conductor remains at large.
