Published on July 8, 2019, Madagascar's fairy tale run in the Africa Cup of Nations continued with a thrilling 4-2 post-match penalty win over DR Congo in the last 16.

After a 2-2 draw in regulation time, the match went into extra time, but neither team could find a winner, forcing the game into a penalty shootout. Madagascar's players showed their composure under pressure, scoring all four of their penalties, while DR Congo's Everton winger Yannick Bolasie missed the final penalty.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast coach Ibrahim Kamara expressed caution ahead of their last-16 encounter with Mali, citing the surprise results that have characterized this year's tournament. 'Nobody thought that Benin could go past Morocco, the same goes for South Africa,' Kamara said, referencing the shock exits of hosts Egypt and Morocco. Mali, seeking their first victory over their fellow west Africans at the Cup of Nations, will face a tough test against the Ivorian squad.
