On Friday, July 5, 2019, Timothy Cheruiyot, a world 1,500m silver medallist, showcased his exceptional skills in the ongoing 2019 Diamond League season, securing a hat trick of victories.
Cheruiyot's impressive performance was evident in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he won the eighth stop of the season, setting a meet record and world lead time of 3:28.77.
His achievement erased the previous meet record of 3:29.51 seconds set by Algerian Ali Saidi-Sief in 2001.
Cheruiyot expressed his excitement about his time, stating, "I am super excited about my time today (Friday). The Diamond League is extremely important to me and the competition is intense."
He also emphasized his desire to win as many races as possible, especially when he is in great shape, adding, "The World Championships is just near and I certainly want to win as many as I can especially when I am in such a great shape."
Cheruiyot's other wins in the season were in Stockholm (3:35.79) and the Bowerman Mile at Prefontaine Classic (3:50.49), extending his series lead.
