The hills, known for their unique 'hogback' landscape and small plots of vines on narrow grassy terraces, have been shaped by human adaptation for centuries.
Italy has been lobbying for UNESCO recognition for over a decade, and the decision was made at a meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Baku.
The Prosecco hills are home to the production of the famous prosecco sparkling wine, which saw a six percent sales increase in 2018, reaching 460 million bottles, with 75 percent being exported.
