On July 7, 2019, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta received an unexpected gift from his Tanzanian counterpart, President John Pombe Magufuli, during a two-day visit to Magufuli's rural home in Chato, Tanzania.
President Magufuli gifted President Kenyatta with four peacocks, a rare and symbolic gesture of friendship between the two nations.
According to President Magufuli, this was the first time a visiting leader had received such a gift from Tanzania, and he was moved by President Kenyatta's visit to his rural home.
“Because of the good friendship I have with him and Kenya, I have been touched, I will give out four of these peacocks. I will instruct my people to deliver them to Nairobi,” said President Magufuli.
President Magufuli also expressed his admiration for President Kenyatta, stating that he was a very special person who had shown great respect and affection for his family and country.
During the visit, the two Presidents discussed various issues, including strengthening trade ties between Kenya and Tanzania.
