On July 7, 2019, Kariobangi Sharks created a piece of history by defeating English Premier League side Everton 4-3 in a post-match penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw at the Moi International Sports Center in Nairobi.

The match, organized by SportPesa, saw the two teams settle for a draw at full time, with the hosts drawing first blood in the 27th minute through Duke Abuya.

Abuya's goal was a result of his clever movement, as he skipped through the offside trap and struck a feeble shot that beat Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The match was attended by international stars, including England International Theo Walcott and new signing Andre Gomez, but Sharks appeared unfazed by their presence.

The match ended 1-1, and both teams proceeded to a post-match penalty shootout, where Sharks goalkeeper Brian Bwire saved two spot kicks and converted one for a sweet victory.
