On a historic day, July 7, 2019, Kariobangi Sharks faced off against Premier League outfit Everton at Kasarani Stadium, resulting in a thrilling 1-1 draw.

Duke Abuya scored the opening goal for Sharks in the first half, only for Joel Williams to equalize for Everton from a set-piece in the second half.

Despite both teams having opportunities to score in the final minutes, the match ended 1-1, forcing a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

Sharks emerged victorious in the shootout, with Brian Bwire saving a shot from Everton's Adeniran and then converting the decisive penalty to secure a historic win for the Kenyan side.

Sharks had previously qualified for the match by defeating Bandari FC in the SportPesa Super Cup in Tanzania earlier in the year.

Everton, who were on their second visit to East Africa, had previously played in Tanzania two years ago, where they defeated Gor Mahia FC 2-1.
