On Saturday, three suspected thugs met their demise in a botched robbery in Nairobi's Marurui area. The incident occurred after a confrontation with police, which left one officer injured.

According to police, the suspects were armed with an AK 47 rifle. Officers from the Flying Squad had trailed the men to the area on Thursday night before they were caught.

The suspects' getaway car was badly damaged in the process. This brings the total number of suspects killed in the week to five, following a similar incident on Tuesday along Waiyaki Way.

Two other suspects were killed in that incident after a motorist shot back in self-defense. Their bodies were taken to the mortuary.

Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo stated that enhanced patrols have been implemented in the city to curb robbery incidents.

Separately, police have launched a nationwide manhunt for 17 hardcore criminal suspects who escaped from a Prisons vehicle while en route to Industrial Area Remand Prison on Friday.

The suspects allegedly cut through metal grills on one of the vehicle's windows to escape. Two prisoners were arrested and detained shortly after jumping out of the van, which was transporting them from Thika.

The duo sustained bullet injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Thika Level Five Hospital.

Police have issued a nationwide alert for the escaped suspects, who were previously arrested in Thika, Juja, Ruiru, and Murang'a for robbery with violence incidents.

The two arrested men, James Kamau and Amos Wanyoike Wanjiru, were apprehended at Marikiti market, where they were hiding.

The escaped suspects include Sharif Hassan Juma, Davis Jonathan Kimani, Sebastian Mburu, Peter Gitau Macharia, Isaac Nganga Wainaina, Daniel Njuguna, Moses Njoroge, Andrew Kiiti Makau, Julius Wachira Wambui, Robert Maziwa Mose, Joshua Michael Okundi, Alexander Muriithi Irungu, Samuel Chege Themba, Johnson Kamau Ndegwa, Samuel Ngugi Maina, Ferdinard Omondi Opiyo, and Josiah Mwangi Wairimu.
