On Thursday, July 4, 2019, Boko Haram militants ambushed Nigerian soldiers in Damboa, Borno state, northeast Nigeria, leaving a trail of death and destruction.
According to multiple sources, including three military sources and three fighters with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), at least five soldiers were killed in the attack, while 16 fighters, including 14 soldiers and two civilians, were injured.
The general commanding officer, Brigadier General Bulama Biu, initially denied any casualties among the troops, stating there was 'no casualty on the part of troops.'
However, sources close to the incident revealed that multiple fighters were still missing, and the death toll could increase as a number of soldiers were still unaccounted for.
