Kenyan football fans and leaders have come together to mourn the loss of Joe Kadenge, a legendary footballer who left an indelible mark on the sport.
According to his son Oscar, Kadenge's health had been deteriorating in the days leading up to his death, with complications from a heart condition and vision problems.
His passing was announced on social media by his son, who said, "Afya ya baba imekuwa ikidorora siku za hivi majuzi, alikuwa na matatizo ya kupumua na macho yake hayakuwa yakiona pia, afya yake ilidhoofika sana wakati bintiye alifariki akiwa nchini Marekani mapema mwaka huu na hakuweza kuhudhuria mazishi yake."
President Uhuru Kenyatta was among the first to pay tribute to Kadenge, describing his death as a significant loss to the football community in Kenya.
Deputy President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga also sent condolences to Kadenge's family.
As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from across the country, with many remembering Kadenge's contributions to the sport.
At the time of his death, Kadenge was 84 years old.
