Matatu Conductor Arrested After Woman Dies in Brutal Assault

Published on July 7, 2019

A 28-year-old woman, Florence Wanjiru, died after being thrown out of a moving matatu by the conductor and driver in a brutal assault. The incident occurred in an area served by Killeton Sacco Matatu.

According to Kilimani OCPD Michael Muchiri, the driver of the matatu has been arrested, and a manhunt has been launched for the conductor who has gone into hiding.

Wanjiru's mother, Beatrice Wanjiru, revealed that her daughter had told her before she died that the conductor had hit her with a blunt object before throwing her out of the matatu.

A CCTV footage shows Wanjiru boarding the Kileton Matatu after coming from work.
