On July 6, 2019, Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli emphasized the importance of addressing cross-border crimes during a meeting with his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Magufuli stated that any Tanzanian found guilty of committing a crime in Kenya would face the same punishment as a Kenyan citizen committing a crime in Tanzania.

"If a Tanzanian commits a crime in Kenya, they will be punished accordingly under Kenyan law, and if a Kenyan commits a crime in Tanzania, they will be punished similarly," Magufuli said.

Uhuru Kenyatta, who was on a two-day visit to Tanzania, echoed Magufuli's sentiments, emphasizing the need to strengthen the war against crime in both countries.

Both leaders agreed that their countries would work together to combat cross-border crimes and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.

Magufuli's statement came before Uhuru's visit to Tanzania, where he was seen off by the Tanzanian President at the airport.
