On July 6, 2019, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta concluded a two-day visit to Tanzania, where he was warmly received by his host, President John Magufuli.

During the visit, President Magufuli gifted President Kenyatta four peacocks, a species highly valued in Tanzania.

President Magufuli expressed his admiration for President Kenyatta's efforts in fostering a strong relationship between the two countries, saying he had never gifted anyone peacocks before.

"I have never gifted anyone peacocks before because they have great historical significance in Tanzania," President Magufuli said.

He added that he was inspired by President Kenyatta's friendship and Kenya's commitment to strengthening ties with Tanzania.

"Because of my friendship with him and Kenya, I have been moved to gift him four peacocks. I will instruct my people to deliver them to Nairobi," President Magufuli said.

President Magufuli emphasized the importance of preserving the friendship between Kenya and Tanzania, which should not be undermined by a few individuals with malicious intentions.

President Kenyatta, on the other hand, urged citizens of both countries to maintain unity and close ties to promote trade and development.

He emphasized that Nairobi would not tolerate any attempts to undermine the efforts of the two presidents in strengthening their relationship.

These remarks come in the wake of a recent outburst by Starehe MP Charles Njagua, also known as Jaguar, who called on foreign businesspeople, including Tanzanians, to leave Nairobi immediately.
