Published on July 7, 2019, Mombasa County officials have rolled out a plan to upgrade Kongowea market, a major wholesale and retail facility in East Africa.
The market, which attracts commodities from upcountry and Tanzania, serves Mombasa and Coast region residents, with over 60,000 people visiting daily.
According to Trade and Tourism Executive Fauz Rashid, the county has fixed the drainage system and plans to relocate traders operating on access roads and parking areas within a month.
The upgrades aim to modernize the market's operations, including the installation of access roads, parking, garbage management, drainage, CCTV cameras, and a lighting system.
