On July 7, 2019, South Africa's national team, Bafana Bafana, pulled off a stunning upset against hosts Egypt, The Pharaohs, in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2019, winning 1-0.

Thembinkosi Lorch's brilliant goal at the Cairo International Stadium, which was packed with a capacity crowd of 75,000, set up a thrilling quarter-final clash with Nigeria.

Despite being favorites to progress, Egypt's star player Mohamed Salah had the first opportunity to score, but it was Lorch who ultimately sealed the win for South Africa.
