On Saturday, July 6, 2019, a tragic accident occurred at Soysambu in Gilgil, leaving one person dead and three others injured.
The accident happened when the victims' vehicle rolled several times as they left the Soysambu Conservancy, reportedly while following a Safari Rally car.
According to Robert Mugo, the Gilgil base commander, the vehicle rolled several times as the four Safari Rally spectators left the conservancy.
Kenya Red Cross Society officials were first on the scene, dispatching a response team to aid the survivors.
Thousands of Kenyans had gathered to watch the drivers tackle the Gilgil circuit as part of the Kenya Safari Rally, which was inching closer to rejoining the prestigious World Rally Championships (WRC).
