On Friday, July 5, 2019, Jacque Maribe, a well-known news anchor in Kenya, handed in her resignation to Royal Media Services (RMS), a media house she had been a part of since 2012.

According to sources, Maribe's decision to leave RMS could be linked to a court case she is currently battling. The case involves the alleged murder of city businesswoman Monica Kimani in September 2018.

Maribe was charged alongside her fiancé, Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, over the alleged murder of Kimani. The body of the late Kimani was found in a pool of blood at her house in Nairobi's Kilimani estate.

Despite the court case, RMS stood by Maribe, reiterating that she was still an employee of the company. However, in a statement, Managing Director Wachira Waruru said, "She has worked with us for six years and boasts of a clean record. She has previously undertaken huge national and international assignments excellently. She rose to the current rank due to her exemplary performance,"

Maribe's resignation comes after a request by the State prosecutor, Catherine Mwaniki, to bar Maribe from reading news during the trial, citing that it would intimidate key witnesses who were ordinary citizens.

Since then, Maribe has kept off TV screens.

Maribe joined RMS in 2012 from Capital FM.
