Published on July 6, 2019, Moses Wetang'ula, a Bungoma senator and Ford Kenya leader, has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2022 presidential election.
Speaking in Siaya County, Wetang'ula, a key figure in the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition, stated that he is ready to engage in talks with other leaders to form a new political alliance.
He emphasized that Kenya is heading in the wrong direction under current leadership and that the country needs new leaders to guide it forward. Wetang'ula expressed confidence in his ability to lead the country, citing his qualifications and experience.
"Without any hesitation, I declare that I will be a candidate in the 2022 presidential election and I call upon my brother Raila, my brother Kalonzo, and Mudavadi to support me at this time," Wetang'ula said.
Wetang'ula has a history of working with other leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi, to support Raila Odinga's presidential bid in the 2017 general election, although they ultimately lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
