On July 6, 2019, Jacque Maribe, a prominent television news anchor, stepped down from her position at Citizen TV, citing personal reasons.
According to sources close to Maribe, she had handed in her resignation earlier in the week, which was accepted by the television station.
Maribe and her fiancé, Joseph 'Jowie' Irungu, are the main suspects in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani. Maribe was released on a cash bail of Sh1 million.
Her exit from Citizen TV has been linked to the murder charge against her and her high-profile appearances in court to support Secretary of Digital Media at State House, Dennis Itumbi.
Itumbi is currently in police custody over allegations of being involved in a fake letter plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
Maribe began her journalism career at K24 TV in 2009 after graduating from the University of Nairobi. She later worked as a political affairs reporter at Kiss TV from 2011 to 2012 before joining Citizen TV in 2012.
