Published on July 6, 2019, Huawei's latest smartphone in the Kenyan market, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, is now available for purchase across the country.
The device went on sale after a successful pre-order period that started on June 26, the day it was officially introduced to the market, and ended two days ago.
According to Huawei Mobile Kenya, the company managed to score over 1,000 pre-orders during the pre-order period through both online and offline sales channels.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 goes for Kshs 25,000 and its main attraction is the 16-megapixel pop-up selfie camera, which eliminates the need for the imposing notch that has graced Huawei devices for over a year.
Despite uncertainty over the brand's future with regards to the Android ecosystem and timely software updates following Huawei's inclusion in a US blacklist, the company has assured buyers of continued software support.
At the media launch in the country a week ago, Huawei executives joined their global counterparts in assuring buyers of Huawei devices of continued software support, seeking to allay fears by some that they may be abandoned along the way.
Interestingly, the US President recently allowed Huawei to trade with US companies, diffusing tensions that were building among the two economies and among device users around the world.
Going by the impressive pre-order numbers of its latest device, the happenings overseas do not seem to have influenced Kenyans.
