Published on July 6, 2019, a body was found in Karura forest, a tranquil green space in Nairobi, after villagers stumbled upon it while fetching firewood.
The discovery was made on Monday, but it wasn't until Friday afternoon that the news came to light as police began investigating the identity of the man.
Police have asked family members of missing persons to visit the City Mortuary to identify the body, which they suspect was dumped in the forest.
Initial investigations revealed no signs of struggle, and the body had no identification documents, making it challenging for detectives to find a breakthrough.
Officers from Muthaiga Police Station responded to the scene after the body was found trapped between two trees on the southern side of the forest.
Friends of Karura, the forest's management, denied that the body was found within the forest's boundaries, insisting it was discovered on the fringes.
John Chege, the chief scout of Friends of Karura, stated, 'We have a fence around the forest. Perhaps the body was found outside the forest in an area where there is tree cover. The forest is very safe.'
He also claimed to have conducted daily patrols around the forest and had no knowledge of the body's discovery.
Karura forest, located off Limuru Road, is a 1,041-hectare green space surrounded by an electric fence and is considered one of Nairobi's safest and most tranquil recreational spots.
