Deputy President William Ruto has been at the center of controversy in the upmarket residential area of Karen, with residents accusing him of causing insecurity, muggings, and noise in the area.
According to a protest letter written by the residents, multiple individuals who masquerade as visitors to Ruto's home often attack people heading to or leaving their homes in the posh neighborhood.
"We have received complaints of insecurity, noise, and traffic gridlock attributed to entourages entering your official residence," the residents said in their letter, dated November 11, 2021.
The letter, signed by the residents' chairperson James Hirst, further stated that Ruto's residence had become the cause of endless traffic as elements from outside the estate visit his residence and park by the roadside awaiting police approval.
The residents are concerned about the ever-presence of suspicious persons roaming around the area, which is against the estate's rules on loitering.
They have requested Ruto's office to speedily and conclusively look into the matter and restore peace and tranquility in their neighborhood.
