Published on July 6, 2019, a report by the Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF) highlights the vast potential of the meetings, incentives, conferences, and events (MICE) sector in Kenya's economy.

The AHIF chairman, Jonathan Worsley, notes that the organization has made a significant impact on local host economies since its first conference in Casablanca in 2011. According to Worsley, AHIF has generated $21.24 million (Sh2.2 billion) in economic impact, created or sustained over 6,000 jobs, and generated $1.4 million (Sh140 million) in tax for the host country's government.

Worsley's statement underscores the intangible benefits of hosting high-level events, including increased awareness of a destination's conference and tourism offerings, improved credentials for bidding on future events, and employment opportunities and skills transfer.

Kenya's government is urged to invest more in the MICE sector to capitalize on its potential and reap economic benefits.
