On July 5, 2019, a group of Western Kenya MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto expressed concern over the arrest of Dennis Itumbi, a Digital Director for the presidency.
According to the MPs, the arrest was a ploy to divert the attention of Kenyans from the alleged assassination plot that was discussed at a meeting held at the Hotel La Mada.
MP Didmus Barasa stated, 'Instead of DCI investigating individuals who talked ill of the Deputy President, they are now focusing their attention on the letter.'
He further emphasized that detectives should focus on individuals who uttered words that appeared to be a plot against the DP.
MP John Waluke echoed similar sentiments, saying, 'We want to tell DCI that even if they arrest all the allies of the Deputy President, they will not succeed in stopping the presidency of Dr Ruto.'
MP Mwambu Mabonga (Bumula) also expressed outrage over the alleged assassination letter saga, stating, 'Government officers who serve Kenyans selectively do not deserve any public office.'
The MPs demanded further investigations to establish the agenda of the meeting at the La Mada Hotel.
