On June 17, 2019, Binance Charity, the philanthropic arm of Binance, hosted its first annual Binance Charity Poker Cup, raising over $170,000 for the Binance for Children initiative.
The event, organized by TRONbet and live-streamed by CryptoLove and NicolasLive on YouTube, saw nine players compete on TRONbet's blockchain poker platform, including Earth Protocol Founder Davis Yu, who won the seat with 888,888 TRX ($28,000 equivalent).
Players such as Binance Founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao, TRON Founder and BitTorrent CEO Justin Sun, and Litecoin Founder Charlie Lee, generously donated to Binance Charity, with Bitguild CEO Jared Psigoda donating his entire prize of TRX 1,000,000 and Davis Yu and dapp.review Founder Vincent Niu donating their prize of TRX 500,000.
Additionally, NBA basketball player Spencer Dinwiddle committed 1 BTC during the game, and the public contributed over 1.3 million TRX, 20 BNB, and 10 LTC through a donation raffle.
As a result of the event, Binance Charity was able to purchase solar panels and school materials for 15 schools in Uganda, benefiting over 9,000 children.
According to Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity Foundation, 'The players, who demonstrated the power of blockchain technology for the poker event for charity, generously agreed to donate to Binance for Children as part of our continuing mission to raise the standards of transparency in donations around the world.'
