On July 5, 2019, Samsung Electronics revealed that its profits for the three months ending June had more than halved from the previous year, citing continued weakness in memory chip prices and demand.

As the company's main profit-making business relies heavily on memory components used in mobile handsets and enterprise servers, analysts point to the decline in DRAM and NAND flash chip sales as a significant contributor to the decline.
