Kenya Airways has embarked on a fuel-saving initiative by partnering with US-based GE Aviation to implement digital solutions for its fleet.

According to GE Aviation's chief digital officer, John Mansfield, the partnership aims to provide Kenya Airways with insights into its fleet performance and track fuel-saving initiatives across its network.

“Kenya Airways was looking for a way to monitor fleet performance, implement and track fuel saving initiatives across their network and empower their pilots to help drive efficiency,” Mansfield said in a statement.

GE Aviation's digital solutions will enable Kenya Airways to reduce its fuel costs, which account for about 27 percent of its expenditure, as per its 2018 annual report.

Implementation of GE Aviation's digital solutions is currently underway, with completion expected this year.

Kenya Airways posted a Sh7.55 billion net loss for the year ended December 2018, with higher costs offsetting a jump in revenue.
