On July 5, 2019, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta touched down at Chato Airport in Tanzania's northwestern region of Geita, marking the beginning of his two-day private visit.
The visit, which was a special invitation from Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli, saw President Kenyatta arrive at 1445hrs (1145 GMT), slightly later than the initially expected 1100hrs (0800 GMT).
Upon his arrival, President Kenyatta was greeted with a special guard of honour mounted by the army, and the national anthems of the two countries were played in a show of unity and friendship.
Speaking shortly after his arrival, President Kenyatta expressed his gratitude and happiness at the warm welcome he received from the people of Chato and Tanzania as a whole.
"I am very happy to be amongst you, I am the first foreign president to come to Chato, I come here most importantly as a brother and a friend," President Kenyatta said.
He added, "You can choose your friends but not your neighbours," in a nod to the strong ties between the two nations.
