Published on July 5, 2019, a requiem mass was held at All Saints Cathedral for the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore. During the service, billionaire Chris Kirubi shared a personal encounter with Collymore, revealing that he was sicker than him when he visited him at his home.

Chris Kirubi, a businessman who has also battled cancer, was flown to the US in 2017 for medical attention. He is not alone in his fight; Kibra MP Ken Okoth, who is undergoing cancer treatment in France, has been open about his condition, inspiring many with his courage and optimism.

Ambassador Judy Wahungu met with Okoth during his visit to France, and Sonko has pledged to sponsor a team to visit the recovering MP. Other Kenyans who have bravely battled cancer include Governor Nyong'o, Safaricom customer executive staff Wairimu Ndung'u, and acting Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph.
