On Thursday, Andy Murray made a triumphant return to Wimbledon's showcourts, teaming up with French partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the men's doubles. The duo comfortably secured their spot in the second round, beating Ugo Humbert and Marius Copil 4-6 6-1 6-4 6-0.
Murray, who underwent a hip resurfacing operation in February, had announced his probable retirement from the sport. However, the Scot's return to the All England Club marked a significant milestone in his recovery. With 45 singles titles, including three Grand Slams, Murray is a relative novice in doubles tournaments.
“Every time I’m on the court now, it’s great,” said Murray. I’m just playing tennis again. Pain-free, healthy. It’s nice. It’s what I have enjoyed doing since I was a kid. At times over the last few years, I was not getting any enjoyment out of it.”
His win was met with cheers from the crowd, who celebrated under the new roof on Court One. The victory was part of a successful day for British fans, with Johanna Konta and Harriet Dart securing wins in the women's singles, and Dan Evans emerging victorious in the men's singles.
