Bungoma Mad Man Arrested with Sh275K in Cash and 1,500 Plastic Bags

On July 5, 2019, NEMA officials in Bungoma county made a significant arrest in their ongoing efforts to curb environmental pollution.

A middle-aged man was apprehended in Kimilili, Bungoma county, with a substantial amount of cash and banned plastic bags.

According to NEMA officials, the man was in possession of Sh275,000 in cash and over 1,500 banned plastic bags.

The arrest was made during a joint operation with the police to enforce the ban on plastic bags, which was implemented by the Government of Kenya on February 28, 2017.

The suspect is currently being held at a Bungoma police post, and the police are investigating how he acquired the money and where he intended to take the plastic bags.

Kimilili Sub-County Deputy Commissioner Joyce Onguso confirmed the arrest, stating that the man will be arraigned once investigations are concluded.
