On July 5, 2019, a tip-off from members of the public led to the arrest of three suspects in possession of a homemade pistol at Pier beach in Homa Bay town.

Deputy County Police Commander Samuel Obara confirmed the incident, stating that the suspects were carrying the gun in a bag when residents noticed it and reported the matter to the police.

Obara suspected that the culprits had been using the pistol for criminal activities within the county and revealed that ballistic experts had been called in to establish if the pistol was functional.

The gun, however, had no bullets.

The suspects are currently being detained at Homa Bay police station for further interrogation on the possession of the pistol.

Commander Obara applauded members of the public for their efforts and assured them that the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations were completed.
