On Thursday, Muthaiga Police OCS Alphonce Kemengua was interdicted by authorities over pictures taken and shared by friends of State House Digital Director Denis Itumbi inside the station.

According to reports, Mr. Kemengua was informed about the move and it was purely a disciplinary action. The interdiction comes after photos surfaced on social media showing Mr. Itumbi sitting next to TV journalist Jacque Maribe and politician Josiah Murigu inside the Muthaiga Police Station cells.

Mr. Itumbi had previously appeared in court on Thursday and asked the magistrate to have him locked up at State House, Gigiri or Muthaiga police stations, citing concerns that hardcore criminals at Kamukunji Police Station might harm him.

Interdicted government officers are put on half pay for a period of time as investigations are carried out.
