On a serene spot in Old Town, Mombasa, a colorful food truck sits parked on the pavement, emitting the aroma of culinary delights being prepared inside.
Grillz on Wheelz, a brainchild of Jameel Nabhan, is one of the latest additions to the growing dining culture in the coastal city.
According to Nabhan, who drew inspiration from the fast food business on vans and other vehicles booming in the United States, the food truck business has potential to thrive in Mombasa.
"I started early this year, and so far, people in the city are appreciating what we are doing, evident through good comments and reviews we get in our social media pages," Nabhan says.
The truck, which boasts of selling Shawarmas, burgers, and sweet potato chips, among other delicacies, has become a popular spot in the Central Business District, near Makadara grounds.
"We also market through word of mouth and our website. Also, we get all kind of customers young to elderly through referrals. To meet a larger crowd, we started catering for birthday parties and weddings," Nabhan adds.
