This archive report was first published on 5 July 2019.

Published on July 5, 2019, the author's childhood fascination with The Karate Kid led him to want to live the thrill of the movie.

As a young boy, he was convinced that he had mastered the ancient art of fighting in his mind and heart, thanks to the wise words of Miyagi: 'Karate lies in the mind and heart and not in the hands.'

However, his confidence was put to the test when he faced off against a four-foot-and-a-half-inch-tall goliath teenager in a banana plantation on his grandfather's farm.

The author, who was just a skinny Class Two pupil at the time, was no match for his opponent, who slapped him viciously twice and left him crying in pain.

Despite his defeat, the author demanded a rematch, which took place five years later.
