Published on October 21, 2021, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has accepted an invitation to attend and speak at this year's Kusi Ideas Festival, organized by Nation Media Group (NMG), the largest media house in East and Central Africa.
The Kusi Ideas Festival, launched in 2019 as part of NMG's 60th anniversary celebrations, is an 'ideas transaction market' for Africa's challenges and solutions. After editions in Kigali, Rwanda, and Kisumu, Kenya, this year's festival will be held in Accra, Ghana.
During a meeting between President Museveni and senior NMG executives at State House Entebbe, NMG Board Chairperson Wilfred Kiboro delivered the invitation. The meeting discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
President Museveni reiterated that Uganda is peaceful, stable, and has one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. 'Uganda is a very strong country,' he said. 'The economy is very strong and the army is very strong, and some people are not happy with that.'
Mr. Kiboro thanked President Museveni for leading Uganda's response to the coronavirus pandemic and pledged NMG's support in encouraging mass vaccination against Covid-19.
ICT Minister Chris Baryomunsi attended the meeting and welcomed renewed channels of communication between government agencies and NMG.
