On Thursday, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa revealed that he had been receiving death threats due to his close association with Deputy President William Ruto. The threats were reported to the authorities for investigation.
Speaking from Milimani Law Courts, Ichung'wa stated, "I have been a victim of receiving death threats that are with the DCI and the IG and I have been warned that I will be killed if I am seen with the deputy president but we are ready to die for what we believe in," emphasizing that such intimidation was aimed at distracting the public from the real issue of the alleged plot to kill DP Ruto.
Ichung'wa was flanked by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa as they showed solidarity with government official Dennis Itumbi, who was arrested on Wednesday over a controversial letter circulated online outlining details of a plan to eliminate DP Ruto.
Ichung'wa claimed that the arrest of Itumbi was a sideshow, and that the real issue was the weaponization of public institutions in the succession politics of the country. He stated, "What is of concern to us is the weaponization of all public institutions in the succession politics of our country. What is on trial today is not Dennis Itumbi or any letters, it is succession politics."
