Published on July 5, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta shared a poignant account of his lengthy meeting with the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, just a week before his passing.
Speaking at Collymore's memorial service at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, President Kenyatta revealed that he had visited the deceased at his home on Monday last week.
During their meeting, which lasted the entire afternoon, Collymore shared his vision for Safaricom and his dreams for the company's future, as well as his concerns about corruption.
"He told me that he did not have more than a few weeks to go," President Kenyatta said. "So we spent a whole afternoon and I wondered why he was talking to me about Safaricom and not about himself," he added.
President Kenyatta also recalled how Collymore had reached out to him three weeks ago while he was on a trip to Canada, calling him at 2 o'clock in the morning.
Collymore passed away at his Nairobi house on Monday after a long battle with cancer (Acute Myeloid Leukemia), leaving behind a wife, Wambui Kamiru, and four children.
