On July 5, 2019, in Nairobi, four applicants will face interviews for the position of Sony Sugar Company Managing Director following the ouster of the previous boss.

The company's Board of Management Chairman, Owino Likoa, confirmed the interviews to Citizen Digital.

Two of the four applicants are current employees of the company, working in different capacities, but their names were not disclosed.

However, Mr. Likoa stated that the current acting MD, James Oluoch, is not among the interviewees.

The interview process comes after former acting MD Bernard Otieno was sent on compulsory leave due to allegations of mismanagement by some workers and farmers.

Mr. Otieno had been holding the position in an interim capacity for nearly a year after the contract of former MD Jane Pamela expired.

The company is currently facing a financial crisis, which has led to downsizing efforts, including sending over 300 casual workers on three-month non-paid compulsory leave.
