On July 4, 2019, Uganda Cranes players finally broke their impasse and stepped out of their Radisson Blu Hotel in Cairo, Egypt, after over five hours of meetings with their federation and government officials.

The meetings, which had been ongoing since the morning, were aimed at resolving a pay dispute that had been holding up the team's training ahead of their knockout tie against Senegal.

According to sources, the players had initially agreed to come out and train, but when the federation set certain conditions, they retracted and went into their own meeting, asking the rest to leave.

However, after several twists and turns, the players eventually boarded the bus and left the hotel for training.

One of the senior players claimed that a lot of their money had been swindled, and that the $10,000 promised when the team qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 had never been paid.

Earlier, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) had released a statement saying they had offered to pay an extra $6,000 per player on top of the agreed terms in the Code of Conduct.
